Thanks for checking out another blog entry. Today we have a video that highlights us refinishing a set of BMW M5 wheels. The customer came to us wanting something close to a factory finish. After some deliberating on colors we landed on Prismatics black chrome color. I had never shot the color before but we gave it a shot. In my early years of coating i had shot their black chrome ll color. That turned into more of a dark grey/gun metal grey color. This color was nothing like that.

After stripping the wheels and getting a nice chrome base on them i put the first layer of color on. Needless to say when i pulled the wheels out i was shocked. Come to find out Black Chrome l is not really a color as it is a tinted clear. The color hadnt really changed at all it just tinted the chrome base slightly and almost dulled it. I thought i had done something wrong so back in the booth for a second coat on one of the wheels and second bake. After pulling the wheel out of the oven for the second time i realized this color was nothing like what i thought it would be. I sprayed a second coat on the last three wheels followed by a clear coat. The wheels came out great and the customer was very happy with them.
